Sad But True Baseball Stories by Sam Whedon

He still runs with the legs of a younger man
He still catches with the eyes of a picture on the wall
But the warm days of spring said goodbye to him long ago
And left him filled with stories, that no one cares to know

They walked him to the door on their shoulders
They took pictures so he’d have something to put up on the wall
But when he shuffles across the street to do his laundry, no one knows him
And there’s no one left to hold him now that time has finally told him

Well they found him laid out in his uniform
So clean and white; it’s been washed so many times
And he looked just like a picture on the wall of a younger man
But his glove was on the floor; it had fallen off his hand

He still runs with the legs of a younger man
He still catches with the eyes of a picture on the wall
But the warm days of spring said goodbye to him long ago
And left him filled with stories, that no one cares to know
